A speaker at a conference in Tralee tonight has said that by May the first, Ireland will have the highest level of poverty in the European Union. Fr. Sean Healy of the Cori Justice Commission will speak tonight at a seminar on ‘Ireland and the Future of Europe’.Speaking on this mornings ‘Kerry Today’, Fr. Healy said that the European Union has been very active in promoting economic integration, but hasn’t moved to tackle poverty. Fr. Healy is concerned that this trend will continue with the accession of 10 new countries to the EU on May 1st.
