The developer behind a controversial planning application in the Cloonties in Ballyferriter says interest in the development is virtually non existent since the introduction of strict language conditions by An Board Pleanala. The original application for 20 houses was reduced to 16 and 75% or 12 of the houses will now have to be purchased by fluent Irish speakers to ensure the growth of Irish in the gaeltacht town land. Another clause included will prevent any buyers from selling it onto English speakers for a 15 year period. Gerry O Sullivan says this is one of the biggest obstacles facing the project.
