TUILogoHundreds of teachers will begin gathering in Killarney today for the Teachers’ Union of Ireland’s annual conference.  The union represents teachers and lecturers in post-primary, higher, and further education, and their meeting takes place in the INEC up until Thursday.  They’re one of three teaching unions meeting today; the INTO began its annual think-in yesterday – while the ASTI’s conferences will begin later. The TUI says new teachers are leaving their jobs because they can’t afford to pay rent; the union claims some of their members are earning less that 15,000 euro a year. TUI General Secretary John McGabhann says as a result some schools are already finding it difficult to find science and language teachers: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/54758/medium/”]
