Hundreds of teachers to gather in Killarney for TUI annual conference

TUILogoHundreds of teachers will begin gathering in Killarney today for the Teachers’ Union of Ireland’s annual conference.  The union represents teachers and lecturers in post-primary, higher, and further education, and their meeting takes place in the INEC up until Thursday.  They’re one of three teaching unions meeting today; the INTO began its annual think-in yesterday – while the ASTI’s conferences will begin later. The TUI says new teachers are leaving their jobs because they can’t afford to pay rent; the union claims some of their members are earning less that 15,000 euro a year. TUI General Secretary John McGabhann says as a result some schools are already finding it difficult to find science and language teachers: [audio_player src=””]
