Hundreds of homes in North Kerry may be without fuel this winter, according a Kerry County Councillor. Fine Gael Councillor Aoife Thornton brought a motion to the monthly meeting of Listowel Municipal District asking for funding to be sought for resurfacing works near the Bog Village. Councillor Thornton claims locals cannot get their turf from the bogs in Cloghaneleiskirt due to the condition of the roads. She adds as many as 200 turfcutters will be adversely affected if repair works are not undertaken in the near future. Kerry County Council could not commit to fixing the road, saying the only source of funding is the multi-annual Roads Improvement Programme, which was allocated earlier this year.
