Home schooling mother says law is unjust

A mother of 6 jailed and almost immediately released for refusing to pay a fine over the home-schooling of her children says she is ‘happy’ to have made the sacrifice. Jail fence prison Monica O’Connor was arrested at her home in Tullow in Co. Carlow at 20 past 7 this morning and driven by Gardai to the Dochas women’s prison at Mountjoy where she was processed and locked in a holding cell. She and her husband had refused to pay a 2,000 euro fine imposed last June for failing to register 2 of their children for home-schooling. Her husband Eddie is also now facing a 10 day spell behind bars. Monica says the law in this case is ‘unjust’: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/27794/medium/”]
