A hillwalker is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after falling from the McGillycuddy Reeks yesterday afternoon. The Kerry Mountain Rescue Team were called to the lower northern slopes of Cnoc na Toinne, above the Hag’s Glen just after 3pm. The man, whose in his late 30’s and believed to be from the Dublin area, sustained serious injuries in a fall from a common descent route, known as the Zig-Zags or Bothar na Gíge. He was part of a large group involved in an ascent of Corrán Tuathail earlier in the day. Members of the rescue team treated the man at the scene for multiple injuries and stretchered him down the mountain to a flat landing zone at the top of Ard na Locha, where he was transported by helicopter to University Hospital Kerry. A total of 15 personnel were involved in the rescue effort.
