Health and Social Care Programme for Community Employment rolled out in Kerry

The Health and Social Care Programme for Community Employment is being rolled out in Kerry by the Department of Social Protection this week.

Department of Social Protection

Community Employment (CE) provides a range of supports to services in the health and social care sector.

The main objective of this initiative is to provide work experience and training to jobseekers while supporting the national health and disability related services provided in the community.
Following recommendations from reviews of Community Employment to improve the programme by having a defined progression path and qualifications for jobseekers, the Health and Social Care Programme was designed.

The programme includes a range of positions specifically in the Health and Social Care sector and participation is now open to eligible jobseekers from age 21 upwards in direct care roles (previously had been 25 years upwards).

The programme has been revised to facilitate participants in undertaking a QQI 5 Major Award in a health or social care course over two years.

Participants will work at all times under the direction and supervision of an experienced practitioner, developing their care skills in community care settings. Mentoring and learner support are key features of this initiative to bring each participant closer to the job market.

Community Employment Health and Social Care positions are available on schemes throughout Kerry – for more information contact [email protected]
