The Green Party has come out in support of the four anglers who walked out of the South West Regional Fisheries Board meeting last week. The anglers were protesting over the introduction of monofilament netting. Green Party marine spokesperson Eamon Ryan says that the Government is not listening to anglers and that monofilament nets will reduce fish stocks if put into use. The Green Party favours a buyout of commercial licenses. He says that a single stock management system should be introduced. At a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resource last week agreed that such a system would be desirable.
