Government scraps Certificate of Irish Heritage

The Government has scrapped the Certificate of Irish Heritage. foreign affairs In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs says interest in the certificates – which were sold to members of the diaspora for 45 euro – was significantly less than anticipated. Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Tom Cruise are among the figures who were given the certificates – the contract for which was held by Killorglin-based financial services company, Fexco. The Rose of Tralee contestants were also among those to receive the certs in Tralee last Friday. The idea for the certs emerged out of an economic forum held in Farmleigh House in 2009. The Department of Foreign Affairs says it’s conducting more analysis on how members of the diaspora can assert their identity.
