A new report from a Government task force is recommending the break-up of Shannon Development. The Enterprise Strategy Group has looked at all agencies as part of its work in drawing up a blueprint for future economic growth. Shannon Development will be disbanded if the recommendations of this report are implemented. It points out that decentralisation will see Enterprise Ireland re-locate their headquarters to Shannon. With 300 staff there, the strategy group says this calls into question the need for a separate agency such as Shannon Development. It’s suggested that their work be taken over by Enterprise Ireland and the I.D.A. 15 years ago, the remit of Shannon Development was extended to take in North Kerry for industry and tourism promotion. In May, hoteliers in the county agreed to re-unify the county under Cork/Kerry tourism.
