Golf clubs of heroic cleric part of exhibition

MONSIGNOR HUGH O'FLAHERTY ON SINGLE HORSEPOWER TRANSPORT IN HAITI Golf clubs belonging to heroic Killarney cleric Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty are included in an exhibition in Killarney library that  continues until next Saturday. Thought to have been left in Rome after his retirement in 1960, the golf clubs were recently discovered in Cahersiveen and are part of the Hugh O’Flaherty Photo & Memorabilia Exhibition in Killarney Library. When the Rome Escape Line, that saved the lives of hundreds of British and American servicemen and Jews, was being set up, ‘Golf’ was the monsignor’s code name. This weekend Fossa native Fr Seán Myers was presented with the Hugh O’Flaherty Humanitarian Award at a gala ceremony in the Killarney. Fr Seán has served the people in his parish in Brazil for the past 55 years.
