Gender equality in Irish politics subject of ITT meeting

A group campaigning for gender equality in Irish politics is holding a meeting in IT Tralee tomorrow evening.

Caroline Fleming of 5050 clarifies that each party must have 30% women on the ballot paper and not simply that there is 30% female representation in the Dáil. At present male TDs make up 85% of the Dáil, compared to 15% female TDs. Ms Fleming says the 30% rule relates only to general elections, and not local elections: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/304/medium/”]
