Garda investigation continues into hoax explosive device found in Caherciveen

Investigations are continuing into the discovery of a hoax explosive device in Caherciveen last Thursday (10th December). Suspect device found at Cahersiveen Court House The device which was wrapped in black tape and appeared to be cylindrical with visible wiring has been sent for a technical examination. Last Thursday morning at 8.35 a member of the public observed what was described as an improvised explosive device on the steps of the court house in the town ahead of a scheduled sitting of the district court. Gardaí immediately sealed off the area and the Emergency Ordnance Disposal team from Cork attended the scene. They declared the device an elaborate hoax. The incident also led to a road closure and the evacuation of the court house, library and citizen’s information. Gardai are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have observed anything suspicious on the morning of December 10th or during the night before in the area around the Courthouse.
