Gaelic games update

Currow qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Aquila Club East Kerry Championship O’Donoghue Cup following a 1-10 to 0-8 victory over Currow last evening. Seamus Moynihan was an absentee for Glenflesk with a calf injury and faces a race against time to be fit for Kerry’s Munster Semi-Final clash with Limerick. Johnny Crowley did make a surprise appearance for his first game of the season. The Kerry star was ineffective however and was replaced late in the game. A fortuitious goal by Pat Brosnan helped a Seamus Scanlan inspired Currow to a 1-6 to 3 points interval lead despite playing against the wind and rain. Glenflesk fought back well in the second half however they never looked like saving the day. In the other O’Donoghue Cup game last evening, Legion had an emphatic 2-20 to 1-7 victory over Cordal. The result of this game was never in doubt as Legion had the ball in the Cordal net inside the first minute thanks to Peter O’Leary. They kicked further points through Kieran O’Neill, David Murphy (2), Sean Culloty and veteran John Keane to open up a 1-5 to no score lead after 10 minutes.Tom O’Connor had Cordals opening point on 12 minutes and they were handed a further lifeline 6 minutes later when Pat O’Sullivan fisted an incoming ball into the Legion net. In the final minute of the first half this game was ended as a contest when Legions Michael O’Sullivan was fouled in the square. David Murphy made no mistake from the resultant spot kick and the Killarney side led 2-12 to 1-2.Despite 3 unanswered Cordal points in the second half Legion pulled away again for a comfortable 2-20 to 1-7 final score. This evening, Gneeveguilla take on Scartaglin in the final first Round game of the O’Donoghue Cup. Throw in in Gneeveguilla is at 8 pm with Padraig O’Sullivan the Referee.
