Events will be held over the coming year to celebrate 800 years of Tralee being Kerry’s capital. The town was founded by John FitzThomas Fitzgerald in 1216. This year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade will be the first official Tralee 800-themed event. A logo has been designed for Tralee 800; it incorporates a visual representation of the River Lee – one of the defining symbols of the town. An extended programme of entertainment around Féile na mBláth and Heroes Week will be combined to be called the Tralee 800 Festival; it takes place from the 16th to the 19th of June. Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society will host a Tralee 800 International Conference in October.
