Fresh appeal for information into death of baby in Caherciveen in 1980s

Gardai are launching a fresh appeal for information into the death of a baby who died in Kerry in the 1980s.

Baby John was found with multiple injuries on a beach in Caherciveen.

Last night, it was revealed on RTE that a full DNA profile of the baby has been generated.

Baby John’s body was found with multiple injuries on White Strand beach in April 1984.

Baby John’s death became part of an investigation known as the Kerry Babies case – which eventually led to a tribunal which shown a light on the treatment of women in the 1980s.

Local Gardai supported by the Serious Crime Review Team are now going to launch a review into baby John’s death.

This afternoon they will launch a fresh appeal for information from anyone who lived in or around Cahersiveen at that time in 1984.
