A new initiative is being launched in Killarney to attract shoppers to the town in the run-up to Christmas. Cllrs have decided to offer free parking in a number of car parks on Saturdays for the month of December. A relatively slow tourist season in Killarney town means that many traders and business people in the area are now banking on a good Christmas period. It’s hoped that Killarney people will choose to shop locally this year but one of the main concerns is the cost of parking.Cllrs have now decided to take steps to prevent cost from keeping customers away from the town centre. At the most recent meeting of the Council Cllr Shelia Casey proposed that free or subsidised weekend parking be introduced for the next 6 weekends prior to Christmas. The proposal was welcomed by other Cllrs and it was agreed that free parking will be provided in several car parks around the town for the 4 Saturdays in the run up to the festive season. The Council is now to launch a major add campaign to make people aware of the offer and attract them to the town.
