Four Kerry men take step towards becoming permanent deacons

Four Kerry men have taken a step closer to becoming permanent deacons.

At the 12 noon Mass in St. John’s Church in Tralee yesterday (Sunday), Thady O’Connor from Kilcummin, Pat Coffey from Killorglin and Denis Kelleher St John’s, received the Order of Acolyte, from Bishop Ray Browne.

This is the final stage before ordination as a deacon which will take place next year at the completion of their formation.

At the same Mass, Francis White from Kilflynn was called to Candidacy for the Diaconate.

Francis is due to be ordained in two years’ time.

Deacons are ordained Ministers who among other activities assist the Priest in the celebration of the Eucharist, celebrate Baptisms and Weddings, and preside at Funerals.
