The elderly man injured following a collision with a car in Killarney this morning is well known Tidy Towns volunteer Archdeacon Michael Murphy. The Archdeacon who will be 91 next month is a former Kerry Person of the Year winner. He also played a major part in Killarney, Kenmare, and Sneem winning in the past, the National Tidy Towns competition. Archdeacon Murphy is a brother of the retired Bishop of Kerry, Dr Bill Murphy. The incident with the car took place at approximately 10:40 this morning. The Gardai and ambulance attended the scene and Mr Murphy was brought to Kerry General Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be serious at this time.
