A Fianna Fail Councillor in the county is welcoming the decision by Justice Minister Michael McDowell to move away from opening cafe style bars. Instead Minister McDowell could grant restaurants full drinks licences. The Minister decided to row back on his earlier proposal after opposition from a number of Fianna fail backbenchers. The Vintners Federation in Kerry has been vocal in its opposition to cafe bars. Councillor Michael Cahill is describing the development as a victory for vintners in the county.
