A Fianna Fail County Councillor is calling on his fellow elected representatives to pass a resolution that will allow for the change of the name An Daingean back to Dingle. Michael O’Shea will put forward a motion at this month’s meeting of the Kerry County Council. The Milltown Councillor is among a majority of Fianna Fail Councillors who believe the Minister for Gaelteacht Affairs was wrong to rename Dingle.Eight Fianna Fail Councillors believe Dingle should be officially known by its English and Irish names and that a bilingual road sign system should prevail. Cllrs Ned O’Sullivan and Breandan MacGearailt support their Minister’s position. Breandan MacGearailt says he is proud of his heritage, community and language.
