North Kerry/West Limerick Sinn Fein TD Martin Ferris has called on the government to ensure that jobs at Elverys Sports are saved including at shops in Tralee and Killarney. Deputy Ferris said that he has written to Minister Richard Bruton after being contacted by people representing 15 staff at two stores in Tralee and Killarney. Elverys has 50 stores nationwide and employs 700 people. Deputy Ferris said that he has asked Minister Bruton to do all that he can to secure the jobs, following the decision by NAMA to appoint an examiner. He said that while NAMA’s overriding commercial objective is to generate the best achievable return for the taxpayer, its work must also contribute to employment and economic recovery.
