Father Shay Cullen to receive 2016 Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award tonight

A missionary priest in the Philippines is to receive the 2016 Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award tonight.

Dublin born Fr Shay Cullen, is to receive the award for his humanitarian work as a Columban Missionary in the Philippines.

The Award is presented to people or organisations, which have displayed the same humanitarian ideals and principals of Monsignor Flaherty.

Father Shay Cullen established the PREDA Foundation in Olongapo City, in the Philippines in 1974 to promote human rights, justice and peace.

Father Shay says the award recognises the efforts that are been done for human rights throughout the world:

Fr Shay will be presented with the Hugh O’Flaherty Humanitarian Award by the Mayor of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Brendan Cronin, at a special ceremony tonight at 8.pm in the Killarney Avenue Hotel.
