ESB Networks says its upgrade of powerlines across parts of Kerry will continue this year and into 2017. Eirgrid, which operates the national grid, ordered the company to upgrade the lines stretching from North Kerry into North West Cork. The work will be carried out on lines from Tarbert to Clashavoon near Macroom. Last year a number of landowners in Kerry refused ESB Networks access on to their land until a deal had been made on compensation. The company says it and their contractors worked closely with all landowners throughout the duration of the works last year to allow the upgrade of the electricity lines to proceed. ESB Networks says it kept disruption and land damage to a minimum. It says where damage was unavoidable, the lands were reinstated with compensation for crop loss being paid if appropriate. The company says this worked well in the majority of cases, allowing for a significant amount of works to be completed. It says the works will continue this year and next year during scheduled line outages and all affected landowners will be contacted prior to the work starting.
