Transport Infrastructure Ireland has sanctioned funding of €3.8 million for the upgrading of a west Kerry road which has been the subject of lengthy legal proceedings. The money is to be used to enhance sections of the N86 between Dingle and Annascaul and Gortabreagoge to Camp – including a cycleway, road widening and improved pedestrian facilities. There were fears that the funding would be lost following a legal challenge by An Taisce to plans to realign parts of the road. Last month, the Commercial Court denied the heritage body leave to appeal an earlier court decision on the matter. The announcement has been welcomed by Minister Jimmy Deenihan and Deputies Brendan Griffin and Arthur Spring.
