Diocesan director says fewer Masses likely as number of priests declines

Fewer priests will mean fewer Masses in the Diocese of Kerry over the coming years, according to the Director of its Pastoral Team. Church candles Fr Ger Godley made the comments as a number of parishes across the county have seen a reduction in the number of Masses in their areas in recent months. Of 71 priests currently in the diocese, 61 are available for ministry in the 53 parishes which stretch across Kerry and parts of west Cork. Fr Godley says that pastoral areas – where parishes have come together to pool resources – are working well. He says that unfortunately, fewer Masses is a consequence of having fewer priests available: [audio_player src=”http://media.radiokerry.ie/mediamanager/embed/audio/27776/medium/”]
