The Dingle People of the Year Awards took place last night at the Dingle Bay Hotel. Dingle sports people, cyclist Josie Knight and jockey Jack Kennedy, were both honoured. Theatre director Fr Tomás Hickey and Other Voices founder Philip King both received awards for their cultural contributions. The Dingle Food Festival and John Sheehy were also honoured and a posthumous award was bestowed on 1916 patriot Tomás Ághas. 150 people were nominated across West Kerry, whittled down to a shortlist, with the winners named last night. Founder of the awards, Arctic explorer Mike O’Shea from Beaufort, said he was humbled by the talent, enthusiasm and community commitment across the entire Dingle Peninsula.
