Maura Healy-Rae, the daughter of newly elected Kerry Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae, is to be co-opted on to Kerry County Council. Ms Healy-Rae will take the council seat which was occupied by her father Danny, prior to his election to Dáil Éireann in the recent General Election. Maura Healy-Rae’s uncle and fellow Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae confirmed to Radio Kerry News that the decision to co-opt her onto the coucnil was ratified at a large meeting of the Healy-Rae organisation at Scott’s Hotel, Killarney last night. Ms Healy-Rae is 25 year old secondary school teacher who is currently teaching in a school in Bandon, Co. Cork. Her father, Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae, said she will continue teaching. He added he was “very proud” of his daughter and that she’s “very capable”. Maura Healy-Rae will now join her brother and fellow councillor Johnny Healy-Rae who was co-opted on to the council in 2011 when his uncle Michael won a seat in Dáil Éireann. Johnny was subsequently re-elected to the South & West Kerry Municipal District of Kerry County Council in 2014.
