Daughter of murdered Kerry man says they want justice

The daughter of a man violently murdered in mid-Kerry has appealed to people in the community to come forward with information to help solve the case.

Today, Gardai in Killarney renewed their appeal for information on the fifth anniversary of the murder of 58 year old James Cahillane at press briefing.

On 18th April 2012, James Cahillane was dropped off by a taxi at his home at Ardraw, Beaufort after a night out; it would be the last time he was seen alive.

In the early hours of the following morning, a fire was noticed at the house by neighbours; the father-of-two’s body was found by the fire service.

Following a post mortem, the investigation was upgraded to murder after it was found Mr Cahillane had been violently assaulted.

Gardai say the attacker set the fire to conceal the crime.

A hammer head, found at the scene, may have been the murder weapon and could have been brought by the attacker.

Superintendent Flor Murphy said it is very frustrating for Gardai and the family that nobody has been charged with the murder:

In May 2013, Gardai questioned a man in his twenties and a woman in her fifties in connection with the murder; they were later released without charge:

James Cahillane’s daughter Lisa said the fact the case remains unsolved has shadowed their grief:

Detective Inspector John Brennan, who is senior investigating officer in the case, will also renew the appeal for information on next Monday’s Crime Call programme on RTE.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160 or the Garda Confidential line 1800 666 111.
