Councillor supports proposal to erect sculpture to Charlie Haughey

A west Kerry councillor is supporting proposals to erect a sculpture of the disgraced former Taoiseach, Charles Haughey on Dingle Pier. Breandan MacGearailt is backing the move by local fisherman to honour a man they have long regarded as their friend. A poll on this morning’s Kerry Today programme shows 53% of listeners are in favour of honouring the controversial former Taoiseach. Cllr MacGearailt says Mr Haughey is not the only statesman to have made mistakes in his career.
