A councillor has called for an oil boom to be provided at Fenit Pier to minimise any potential damage in the event of an oil spill. Councillor Toireasa Ferris raised the issue at the Tralee Municipal District meeting. Kerry County Council said it is a member of the Shannon Estuary Anti-Pollution Team, which provides a co-ordinated response to any risk of pollution in the region. That team has an emergency plan to deal with such issues including access to specialist equipment. The local authority told Cllr Ferris the level of risk is reviewed regularly in Fenit.
