Councillor claims people are going blind while waiting on cataract procedures

Michael Cahill 1Independent Councillor Michael Cahill has claimed that people are going blind while awaiting cataract procedures. At this months meeting of Kerry County Council, Councillor Cahill called on the Minister for Health and the incoming Government to immediately address the situation. The Killorglin Councillor said most of those on the waiting list, many of whom are waiting up to 3 years and longer, cannot drive or go outside the door, they can’t read or write, or fend for themselves. The Independent Councillor said, for many of these people it leads to depression, social isolation and fall related hip fractures which are more costly to treat. According to Mr Cahill these cataract procedures cost on average of €3,000 to €4,000. The independent Councillor says more needs to be done: [audio_player src=””]
