Kerry County Councillors have called on the Minister for Health and his department to provide immediate funding for the provision of a potentially life-altering Cystic Fibrosis drug. Cllrs John Brassil and Norma Foley both tabled motions at the council’s monthly meeting calling on Minister Varadkar to clear the way for the HSE to fund the drug Orkambi. Following the moving of an emergency motion tabled last December which received unanimous support, letters were issued to the Minister and HSE calling on them to proivde funding for the drug. Cllr Foley said the council had not yet received a reply. She said research suggests the drug targets underlying causes of CF adding the drug could be a “game-changer” for CF patients and their families.
