A Kerry County Councillor has called on the local authority to help pensioners with refuse costs. Cllr Michael O’Shea asked the council to make provisions to introduce a subsidised refuse collection service to households in receipt of the state old age pension. However, Head of Finance Angela McAllen told the monthly meeting of the local authority that the county council has no function in the provision of a subsidised service by private operators collecting in Kerry. She added that the council is no longer involved in the waste collection business.
