Council to increase beach cleaning if weather improves

Kerry County Council  will increase the number of times it mechanically cleans the beaches in Ballybunion – but only if the weather improves and the resort gets busier. Cllr Robert Beasley The commitment was given at this week’s meeting of the council’s Listowel Municipal District, where Cllr Robert Beasley asked the local authority to machine clean the town’s two beaches, at least five days a week. He said the town was ‘on its knees’ because of bad weather and the various cutbacks made to people’s incomes, and the upkeep of the beaches was therefore vital for local business. Cllr Beasley also asked the council to consider washing the footpaths on the main street in Ballybunion during the tourist season. But he was told that this would cost an estimated 25 thousand Euro to carry out, and the council doesn’t have the money to fund it. The council did, however, agree to help any local group interested in cleaning  the footpaths, by providing the necessary materials.
