Council says Repair and Lease Scheme viable way to tackle Kerry housing waiting list

Kerry County Council says the Repair and Lease Scheme is a viable way to tackle the social housing waiting list.

The scheme aims to make social housing available quickly by owners of vacant properties entering into a lease of between 10 and 20 years with the local authority.

A payment of up to €40,000 will be made available to each vacant property to carry out any repairs and to bring the house up to standard.

Applications for the first tranche in the scheme will be accepted until June 1st.

Senior Executive Officer with the Housing Section of Kerry County Council Christina O’Farrell says there are a significant number of vacant properties in the county.
