Council owned leisure facilities recorded losses of over €2.8m in 2014

Recreational facilities owned by Kerry County Council were running at an accumulated deficit of over €2.8 million in 2014, the last year for which accounts have been published. Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre.Photo:Valerie O'Sullivan The unaudited Annual Financial Statement for 2015, which has been circulated to members, reveals that the biggest losses for that year were recorded at Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre.The Killarney facility, which is solely owned by the local authority, was running at a loss of €2,350,046 in 2014. Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre had recorded losses of €451,778 for that year. Tralee Regional Sports and Leisure Company Ltd, jointly owned by the council and Kerry Education and Training Board, recorded a deficit of €40,996.
