School authorities in the county have confirmed a pornographic image of a schoolgirl has been sent to hundreds of students in the county via text message. Gardai in Cork have launched an investigation into the image which is being passed around with camera mobile phones. Hundreds of students in schools in Tralee and in Listowel have received the picture showing a partially clothed teenage girl in school uniform in a sexually compromising position. However gardai in the county say they are unaware of the image being passed around. A number of the schools have held investigations into the issue but it has been impossible to trace the origin of the picture. One school principal says the school uniform in the image could belong to one of thousands of schools nationally. He says he believes the text is an elaborate prank and suspects the image was downloaded from the internet and is not as rumors suggest a local girl. Mobile phone owners are being warned that forwarding pornographic images of a minor is a serious offence that could result in a lengthy jail sentence.
