Claim shortage of long-term rental properties in Dingle reaching crisis level

A rental crisis currently unfolding in Dingle could see people move away – not due to a lack of employment, but because they have nowhere to live. Dingle townA number of auctioneers have confirmed to Radio Kerry there is currently a severe shortage of long-term private rental properties in Dingle town and the wider Corca Dhuibhne area. Currently the majority of private residential properties for rent in Dingle are holiday homes. This has left a number of those working in Dingle seeking accommodation as far away as Inch, Annascaul and Camp. The problem has been further compounded by the start of the tourism season, which sees hundreds travel to Dingle to take up seasonal employment positions. Business owners are concerned this shortage of long term private rental properties could lead to a lack of seasonal workers. Auctioneers have also said the arrival of Star Wars crew has not had an impact on the shortage as they are being housed on a short-term basis. Café owner Lorna Holderied who says she’s been unable to find long-term rental accommodation.
