The Kerry trainer of the greyhound that won this year’s Irish Derby has received the highest honour that can be bestowed by the Tralee Municipal District. Liam Dowling trained Ballymac Matt to victory in the most prestigious race in the Irish greyhound industry last September and a civic reception was held in his honour. It was Mr Dowling’s first time winning the race. The Ballymacelligott man, who also co-owns the dog, appealed to Kerry’s five TDs to support the greyhound industry, which he said is a vital employer and element of the tourism sector.
