The County’s main hospital is now known as Kerry General. The name change has taken effect even though an official ceremony hasn’t been organised yet. The decision was taken last October following a recommendation from the Executive Management Board of Tralee General. The change was suggested to take account of the increased patient catchment area it serves. The hospital celebrated 20 years as Tralee General earlier this year. It has a staff of nearly 900 and did over 4,000 operations in 2003. The budget for this year is 54.6 million euro.
