90 per cent of branches have been counted in the IFA President elections with Galway dairy farmer Joe Healy looking set to take the top job. He has 47 per cent of the vote, ahead of Laois man Henry Burns who is on 31 per cent and Kerry’s Flor McCarthy who is on 22 per cent. The vote is being seen as a rejection of the establishment within IFA. which was last year rocked by a top level pay scandal. In Kerry there was a turnout of around 65 per cent. Of the 3,503 members who voted, 93 per cent or 3,248 gave their number one to Kenmare’s Flor McCarthy. Elsewhere, John Coghlan from Buttevant in Cork has been elected Munster Chair of the group.
