The Star Wars set on Ceann Sibeál is an “exempted development” and as such does not require planning permission. That’s according to a Kerry County Council spokesperson, who confirmed to Radio Kerry News this is due to the “temporary nature” of the set. Work has escalated in recent weeks on the set – which is situated west of Dingle on a scenic headland close to Baile an Fheirteáraigh village, overlooking the Blasket Islands. Large beehive structures have been constructed on-site, akin to those on Sceilig Mhíchíl which featured in Star Wars: Episode VII, A council spokesperson confirmed also, permits for filming at Ceann Sibeál have been granted by the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht. Filming is understood to be taking place next month.
