Gardaí and Kerry County Council are advising motorists to proceed with care on the county’s roads this morning following heavy rain yesterday and overnight. The Castleisland area and parts of North Kerry were worst affected; roads around Castleisland are open again but caution is advised. Poll Gorm in Ventry remains closed this morning with council crews monitoring the situation. Council staff and Civil Defence members spent much of yesterday dealing with flooding particularly in Castleisland, Listowel, and Tralee. Flooding remains an issue both ways on the N72 Mallow Killarney Road between Cullen and Rathmore. The Glenflesk Barraduff Road – the R570 – is open again, although surface water remains an issue. Gardaí say there’s a lot of surface water on roads throughout the county and are asking motorists to exercise caution.
