Castleisland students raise awareness of Down Syndrome

Young Social InnovatorsA group of Castleisland students have been honoured at the finals of the Young Social Innovators of the Year Awards. 228 schools took part in this year’s competition, which aims to recognise young people who are actively working to bring about positive social change. 23 students in the joint transition year programme at Presentation and St Patrick’s Secondary Schools in Castleisland took part in a Down Syndrome awareness campaign. This included an awareness week, a cake sale, a spring clean for Down Syndrome Kerry and making connections with many organisations. YSI co-ordinator Mairead Lane says the students’ focus was on saying no to labels and instead focusing on abilities: [audio_player src=””]
