Cases of sunburn found in wild salmon

Several cases of sunburn among wild salmon have been confirmed to The Fisheries Board. Sunburn occurs when salmon are near the surface of the water for long periods. There are 3 causes for this, farm fish confined in cages are often pushed towards the surface. Disease may also cause salmon to linger near the surface or if water levels are low and clear. Sunburn is sometimes found among farm fish, but it is unusual to find it in freshwater salmon.
