Calls made for cost benefit analysis of spending on wind energy

Calls are being made for a cost benefit analysis of spending on wind energy.

It comes ahead of a decision on August 1st by the Commission for Energy Regulation on setting the Public Service Obligation from October to September 2018.

The proposal would see a 40% increase in the PSO levy for domestic customers from €80 to €112 per year while the levy for small businesses would increase by 39% from €282 to €392 annually. There would also be a 12% increase year on year on the levy for medium/large businesses.

The levy was introduced in 2003 to support the generation of renewable electricity with the majority going to the wind energy sector.
