One of the objectors to a controversial housing development in West Kerry has called on Udaras Na Gaeltachta to regulate the type of developments in the region. Michael O Conchuir was speaking after a landmark decision was made by An Board Pleanala on a housing application in West Kerry which will require 75% of the development to be filled with Irish language speakers. He claims that developers are pricing locals out of the market. He says if developers continue to be allowed to build in the Gaeltacht without regulation then our culture and language will suffer.Meanwhile a planning application for 11 holiday homes in Baile Na Ngall in West Kerry is before An Board Pleanala following a number of objections from locals and language groups. They say that they are worried about the number of planning applications for the townland that is before the council particularly as there is no development plan in place for the region. Kerry County Council have already granted the application subject to 30 conditions.
