A review of road safety regulations is needed according to the Road Safety Officer with Kerry County Council Brendan O Connor. He was speaking following one of the worst weekends in living memory of carnage on the roads. 11 people lost their lives around the country this weekend, including 24 year old Richard Healy from Ballyduff in North Kerry.Brendan O Connor says while past campaigns have been shocking, people have become complacent. Sgt Kieran O Connell of the traffic core in Tralee says one of the largest problems they have is dealing with young drivers who cannot control their car and are travelling at high speed. Speaking on this mornings Kerry Today Sgt O Connell says provisional drivers are unsupervised in cars that are simply too powerful for them.
