There have been calls for the OPW to extend the season for boatmen to bring visitors to the Skellig Islands.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael Cahill says the OPW should extend the season to begin on April 1st.
He said numbers visiting the Skellig islands have significantly increased since the filming of Star Wars and there was a need to accommodate this increase.
Cllr Cahill said the extra month would be a great help and that weather conditions in April would be favourable for boats to travel to the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The latest episode in the Star Wars franchise – prequel Rogue One – is released this week.
